‘Caravaggio’Caravaggio

Speaker Colin  Lomas

27 January 2014 – 8pm – Purley United Reformed Church Hall:

Was Caravaggio (1571-1610) the most original, dramatic, influential painter in history? Prepare for a wonderfully visual evening of crucifixion, seduction, beheading, devouring, cardsharping, drunkenness, brawls and murder. Brawls, because Caravaggio couldn’t keep out of them; murder, because he probably committed one. Colin Lomas compares Caravaggio’s revolutionary, naturalistic art with that of other famous painters around his time, including Raphael, Correggio, Breughel, Rubens, Vermeer, Velasquez.  An astonishing display of 15th to 17th century art.
