The Church Organ – an essential part of worship

Music to the ears since 1924 ……….

The organ is a three manual Willis organ built-in 1924. There is a rolling investment programme to ensure that this historically important instrument is maintained and enjoyed by all who worship with us now and in the future.

Guest organists are welcome, by arrangement, to play the organ during Sunday morning services.  As well as accompanying the hymns and playing voluntaries, the visiting organist is be able to work with and support the choir.

The Organ has undertaking major and minor maintinance over the years which is essential to keep this amazing musical instructment working at it’s best. Although this is a costly and time consuming endeavour it is a necessary investment to keep the Organ in good working order and is essental for the wellbeing of the chuch community and to all those hat come in contact with the church.

100th anniversary celebration

Last year (2024) was the one hundred year anniversary of the contraction of the organ and to mark this milestone in its history a concert was held on Saturday 12 October 2024 which included pieces by J S Bach, Edward Elgar and Andrew lloyd Webber. The guest organist was Ian le Grice and the event was attended by over 200 people.

The orgain is also a link to our past, the present day and future and is one of the constants of the church in an ever changing world.

Music and Bible Readings

We use a number of different sources for our music but our main hymn book of choice is ‘Rejoice and Sing’ and we use The Revised English Bible, for our bible readings and reflections.
